Shots_by_patrick
Shots_by_patrick is a passion project of mine that I started back in 2020. Initially starting as a hobby I began during the final months of the covid lockdown as a way of building my photography skills. It has now evolved into a multi-platform way of documenting my daily life and travel adventures. It no longer included just photography but cinematography, animation, and sound design.
Overview
Travel vlogs
At the start of 2023 I was working from home so I took this as an opportunity to solo travel around Europe and Africa (Germany, Morocco, Bulgaria, and Tenerife.) I used this opportunity to see new countries, make new connections, and build upon my cinematography. This was done by creating a series of both long-form and short-form content often revolving around a specific day trip or message. These videos were filmed in the moment and really only came together once the footage had been created and brought in for editing. Allowing me to have full creative freedom on the day and shoot footage while still being in the moment. Due to this, I feel I was able to convey the emotions felt on these travels with strangers who later became friends. These videos initially started during my Europe/Africa travels, and I have since continued to create while traveling across Australia with the most recent being a trip to the Blue Mountains (Lincoln Rock.)
Lifestyle vlogs
Once I caught the video “bug” I found I kept having these creative itches that I couldn’t get rid of until I scratched them. Often happening during daily life when doing a range of activities, like skateboarding, waking up on chilly weekday mornings, or when I was watching a piece of content and thought “How did they do that shot? Could I do it too?”
With this in mind, I started making these lifestyle vlogs in both short and long-form so that I could build upon my existing skills and gain more experience in the video and editing world. These videos were often much more thought out from the start, meaning they usually involved some sort of storyboarding, shot lists, and sometimes script writing depending on the message I wanted to convey. This meant the videos were quite often fully formed in my head before it made it into the editing software.
Overall I’m happy with these videos, my skills are improving every time I pick up a camera or open adobe and after a year and a half of travel this videos act as my own living breathing diary that I can look through to remember my time.
Photography
What’s video without photo? Having initially started off with just a photography camera this is where I began building my skills of composition and colour correction. With photography being one of my biggest hobbies I have seen my skills take on great leaps since I first started. Since the beginning I have been able to bring my photography into many of my design projects which has been a great help as I no longer have to rely on stock images to suit my needs.
I can go out there and create my own to fit the work required.
